Synopsis

Emma, a woman of 35 years old, beaten by her abusive husband, escape her house during the night with her 5 years old daughter, CHLOE. Emma manage to get rescued by the emergency and is sent to a shelter that greet women victim of domestic violence. In this center, Emma is going to meet several women coming from very different backgrounds but in the same situation as her. Surrounded and leaded with passion by the manager and the psychotherapist of the center, these women, often broken and drifting, attempt to get back the control of their lives but the road of the recovery is still long and they have to deal with many questions and obstacles. They often have to deal with the fear to be found by their former partner, they have to deal with economic difficulties, battle for the custody of their children and other legal and affective problems that a split involves. Through all the experience that Emma is going to have with each of the women, Emma is going to be torn apart between staying with her husband or leaving him and pressing charges. She is lost, she does not have the means to live by herself and take care of her daughter, she does not want her daughter to live without having a father, she is scared to press charges against her husband and cause him troubles. Her own mother advise her to stay with him for the sake of the family, to sacrifice herself for her family. In the end, despite of all the difficulties, Emma is going to choose herself and is going to divorce her husband and press charges against him for the sake of her daughter.

Malika Hadjal

Malika Hadjal is Algerian and French. She was born and grew up in Grenoble where she develop, at a young age, her love for acting. She quickly took acting lessons in her home town before going to Los Angeles at the age of 23 to pursue her dream of becoming and actress. She then relocated in Paris in 2010 and started writing script. To this day, Malika has written several short and long movies. This is in a natural next step that she is doing her directing debut.
