
Synopsis
In Travels on My Donkey, Lee Whitmore embarks on a time-traveling adventure to 1837 Egypt, where she meets her great-great-uncle John Reed Hill and his wife Ann, who run a hotel in Cairo’s Frank quarter. As John prepares to join Colonel Howard Vyse’s expedition to explore the pyramids of Giza, Lee rides along on her donkey. What begins as a family visit quickly turns into an extraordinary journey filled with history, discovery, and adventure.

Lee Whitmore, an independent animator from Sydney, Australia, has spent five decades crafting hand-drawn films. She began in children’s books, later working in theatre and film as a production designer before creating her first animated short in 1982. Her deeply personal films often explore family, friends, and childhood. Her award-winning Ned Wethered established her storytelling style, which she continues in her latest animated autobiography, Travels on My Donkey, adding to her remarkable career.
