Synopsis

What does it mean to be a girl in today’s world? “Girls Don’t Cry” follows six girls from six countries in their search for a free and self-determined life, with autonomy over their bodies and equal rights. Focusing on their struggles with adolescence and resistance to social pressure and brutal traditions, the film is a story of staying true despite trauma and loss.

Sigrid Klausmann

Sigrid Klausmann, born in Furtwangen in the Black Forest, considers her childhood the basis of her interest in art and children. She began her career as a sports and dance teacher, staging theatre productions with young people. A recipient of the Cultural Prize of Ludwigsburg, she has been working as a documentary filmmaker since 2003 and runs Schneegans Productions. Her films focus on adolescence and youth, and since 2011 she has been the lead director of the series “199 LITTLE S*HEROES,” whose documentary “NOT WITHOUT US!” and several shorts have received international awards.
