Synopsis

Sophia, a spirited young photographer from Tangier, has her world upended when she learns a shocking truth: her French mother, believed deceased, is alive and residing in France. Driven by a yearning for identity, Sophia embarks on a perilous journey to the heart of Europe, determined to unravel the family secrets that have been shrouded in darkness.

Layla Triqui

Layla Triqui is a Moroccan director and producer who has been working in the film and television sector for over 24 years. She studied set design in Rabat and film direction and scriptwriting in Paris, Leipzig, and Berlin. In 2005 she was selected to train with the late Abbas Kiarostami and Martin Scorsese as part of the Marrakech Tribecca Filmmakers Exchange. She directed her first short fiction film, ‘Chapelet,’ in 2001, which won the CINIT CIEMME prize in Milan. To date, she has written, directed, produced, and co-produced short films, TV films, documentaries, and fiction series that have taken part in a number of national and international festivals, including the Cannes Festival in 2005 and 2006 and the Venice Mostra in 2002 and 2007, and several of which have won awards at the Tangiers, Tunis, Cairo, and Alexandria festivals. Her latest work is the feature film "Carved by the wind".
