Synopsis

In the heart of Izmir during the 1970s, amidst the hustle and bustle of city life, lives Zeynep, a young girl with a simple yet elusive dream: to have a doll of her own. In a time when her family grapples with the daily challenges of making ends meet, this desire seems like a distant fantasy. Yet, it's this very dream that brings a spark of joy into Zeynep's life. Each day, Zeynep finds solace in a toy store window, where a beautiful doll captures her heart. But Zeynep's connection to the doll faces a challenge when another young girl shows interest in the doll. With the symbol of her hope in the balance, Zeynep must learn to brave her harsh world in order to discover what truly defines her happiness.

Yıldız Yılmaz, Matthew Lucas

Yıldız Yılmaz was born and raised in Turkey and currently resides in the United States. She graduated from the Department of Theatre Directing at Howard University and earned her Master’s degree in Film and Electronic Media from American University. Throughout her career, she has worked on numerous projects as a producer and art director. Zeynep, inspired by a true-life story, marks her directorial debut.
